The Greeks also had a great army. Soldiers marched around with long spear, short sword, and a bronze shield to keep the soldiers safe. They had to afford a bronze helmet, and they didn't have to pay for ankle guards, bronze chest plates, and greaves for the legs. There were slingers, archers, and javelin throwers, unlike the Romans which consisted of a sharp sword and throwable javelins. The Romans came more prepared with equipment and much armor, and the Greeks did not carry supplies in battle. Greeks came up with the tactic of the phalanx, which was where the soldiers lined up in a rectangular position and stood shield- to- shield in rows. The Romans, however, used the tactic of the legion. That was where 6000 soldiers were divided into groups to surround the enemy and destroy in a smaller formation.
