The Roman army had amazing strength. The soldiers were kept fit by running, marching, and they practiced fighting. They were able to march 20 miles a day with armor on! Rome's army was able to swim, cross many rivers, build different bridges, and smash into enemy forts. The outrageous strength is not only with athletics, but with weapons as well. They had weapons such as the pilum, which was very close to a javelin, and you were supposed to throw it at the enemy. Another weapon was the gladius(a sword) that was kept razor sharp in battle. Soldiers also carried camping equipment: clothes, axe, spade, and even cooking pots! Many people don't know about the pugio- a small dagger to use if all else was lost. The Romans had an outrageous lead in front of the Greeks.
